Cothù Parenting Course

Cothú Parenting Course – Support for Parents of Autistic Children

Empowering families with strategies, insights, and practical tools from a course created by autistic parents who understand the journey — designed for both autistic and non-autistic parents.

Cothú Parenting Course

The Cothú Parenting Course, developed by Ausome Training Ireland, is an interactive program for parents and carers of neurodiverse children. It was created by autistic parents with lived experience and is led by Gail, a qualified trainer and parent of both an autistic and non-autistic child. The course offers practical guidance and deep understanding of each child’s unique needs.

The Cothú Parenting Course Approach

Gail’s journey as a parent has been deeply influenced by the approaches in this course. She saw how transformative they were for her own family. This inspired her to become a trainer and help other parents benefit from the same support.

Who the Course Supports

Whether you are autistic or not, this course provides clear, practical guidance. It is grounded in neuro-affirming, real-life approaches. Parents gain confidence, understanding, and tools to navigate daily challenges with their children.

Empowering Parents with Practical Tools:

The Cothù Parenting Course covers essential areas for both autistic and non-autistic parents:

  • Introduction to Neurodiversity, helping you understand your Autistic child beyond negative stereotypes, debunking harmful myths, and embracing a new, empowering perspective that encourages acceptance and lets go of neuro-conformative expectations.
  • What it feels like to be Autistic from the autistic viewpoint focuses on sensory sensitivities, deep emotions, and unique ways of learning, playing, and communicating. You will also discover how an Autistic-informed environment can positively impact well-being and behaviour.
  • Family life, helping you understand how to create a harmonious home by meeting everyone's sensory needs and making accommodations. We provide strategies for organising your home, managing meal times, and making time for your own self-care, while offering tools to improve communication and reduce stress within the family.
  • Introducing the concept of 'Parenting Autistically,' offering approaches that align with the needs of Autistic children by letting go of neuro-conformative demands and emphasise the crucial role of support and self-care, because as a parent, you can't pour from an empty cup.
  • Focus on raising a happy, authentic Autistic child by embracing Autistic Pride and reframing perceptions. We explore how to let go of negative stereotypes and recognise that your child is perfect as they are. We also provide resources for further learning to support you in your parenting journey with an Autistic-informed, Neuro-affirming approach.
